Spring Crops

Anyone want to make a little Rhubarb/strawberry sauce? This is my brother's favorite!
  • 5 cups rhubarb
  • 3 cups sugar
  • 1 small package of wild strawberry jello
  • cook rhubarb over medium heat with half inch of water in pan until tender and slightly mushy, add sugar and jello, cook another 5 minutes . Ladle hot sauce into half pint or pint jars and seal. Hot water bath for 20 minutes to ensure good seal.

I like to do a double batch while I'm messing around, yesterday I did two double batches at a time. This can also be freezer jam or just pop into the fridge after it's cooled. I like mine on toast, everyone here eats it on waffles and it would be fantastic on ice cream!

I have 3 trays of chives in the dehydrator, and a tray of sage. I like having my own herbs to use, an herb garden is being planned for the farm this year. (these are from my mom's)

I whipped up a little baby quilt during shop hop last week, I had no ambition to do anything that took any thought. I went downstairs and found these strips cut and bundled. I'm sure they were for some promotion or long ago show as I remember a few of the prints from the sale room. I demonstrated how to do a Streak of Lightning setting to anyone who came into the shop that day.
Not sure what I'm going to do today, not moving to fast due to late night at the bar and then I could not sleep.....oh well, drink another pop and get moving!

Monday

This is my brain.............ok that's what it feels like today anyway.......full of junk!
It's been a long weekend and today I feel dull and useless. It started with a 13 hour day at the bar last Thursday, my boss was in an accident (he's home and gonna be fine). Friday 11 hours at the quilt shop and closing the bar down that night, another 5 hours or so. Took Josh and Brad to Omaha Saturday, Josh had another prom date and I shop hopped 4 quilt shops. Movie with Brad Saturday night then up at 6:30 a.m. and to Souix City by 9:30 to meet Kristin for lunch and tux return(we rented from the costume shop on campus) I got home at 2:00 on Sunday and went back to the bar to work at 3:00......whew............it was a fun weekend but I am soooooo tired today! Someday I'm going to go out to my shop and sew, maybe after a trip to the grocery store and a nap!

Nashville

I thought the artwork in Nashville was really fun, not sure the city thinks it's great but I appreciate it.
Thursday night was the customer appreciation night at the Hard Rock Cafe in downtown Nashville, this is the view off the second story balcony. They closed the Cafe down for the company party with about 400 in attendance. Drinking, dancing, live band and food, it was a FUN night.

Downtown Nashville view from the tour bus......

Thursday my new friend Dick and I went to the Hermitage, the home of Andrew Jackson. I love being a tourist and doing touristy things! This is a pic of the side of the mansion, the dinning room was as long as the house and to the left was the outside kitchen. They are fixing the front columns of the house so no front pic's. I enjoyed the tour and the grounds are just like a big park now but in 1837 over 200 people lived and worked there.
I am really glad to be home but the week away was wonderful, I relaxed and hung out most of the time. Kev said he learned a lot and so did the others who were along for the classes.

Samples

I whipped up this cute little baby quilt last week with new sale room fabrics. I LOVE the doggy prints! I just had to use these, the pink is so fun and the block was soooooooo easy!
Miss Millie's Garden is the name of this one. I used the Strippy Dog Days Pattern and got it on display. Sold one kit already so I hope it's a hit. My pic kind of washes out the color, I like it more up close and personal.

Changed the border on the horse quilt and got it back on the display floor. I really wanted to have it quilted before Shop Hop but I ran out of time.

The Crossed Path quilt is quilted and bound! It went out on display yesterday too. Today I am packing for our trip to Nashville and cleaning.......I'm looking forward to sitting by the pool and drinking margarita's. It's a bad time of the year for Kev and I to be gone but the corporate world don't care about farming, animals or Shop Hop. So he's going to take the classes offered and grump about being gone all week.
See ya all next week!

Prom

Here's a few pic's of Josh and his date Alyssa. No they didn't want their pic's taken but that's what Mom's do, they take pic's!
Alyssa, Josh and Amanda. (don't she look like a little doll?) I made them get regular pic's taken and this is them standing in line waiting.........

I snuck in the official pic taking area.......good thing the photographer is a sweetheart.

I would of thrown a fit if she wanted to wear flip-flops...........look what I got instead.......ok I'm off to work, gonna miss the promanade but at least I got a sneak peak at all the beautiful girls and
handsome guys.

Happy Easter

Can you tell our favorite part of Easter? I love the different kinds of jelly beans they make now. Sweet Tart, Jolly Rancher, and Starburst.......yummy! Hersey chocolate and Kevin's favorite Reese's Eggs. The Easter Bunny did show up.......left the kids goodies in Wal-Mart bags. The guys are fixing brunch this morning and planning a day of outside work. I'm the bar wench later, the boss took his wife to her families Easter celebrations for the weekend. I am so excited that Spring is finally here!

Chicks

Oh I love hatching eggs!!! Watching chicks is better than T.V. I am up to 23 as of tonight with a dozen or so more starting to break out of their shells. Last night in the middle of watching Being John Malkovich I heard peeps from the kitchen, so I raced out and sorted eggs. Yes right in the middle of that strange movie I was laying on the kitchen floor with my head stuck in the incubator. (I did go back and finish watching the movie half hour later) When I went to work this morning one chick was out, tonight 23!!! I should be done hatching by Monday then Kelsey will take the incubator home and they will hatch a batch or two. They want at least a hundred hens.........wow........I just love Spring and all the new babies that come with it.

Luanne's quilts

Just thought I would pop in and show off Luanne's quilts. (this means I have nothing of my own to show) The top one is a graduation gift for her granddaughter.
I think this one is a graduation gift also, I can't remember what she told me. This is the second one like this that she has done.

This one is a confirmation gift for a granddaughter. Luanne is on a bright fabric kick!
I have nothing to show, nothing done, nothing finished........it's been a long week............
