1st day of spring

This is what I saw out my door the first day of spring. The goats around here have been quite entertaining lately. Supposedly they live in the fence behind the tractor but somehow 4 little goats have found their way out daily and its always interesting to see where they end up. I think I'm really going to enjoy spring this year.

Making cheese

Helena and Kelsey are making cheese, farmer cheese. I've never tried it but it looks simple enough, sour some milk and cook it, strain and ? Heck I don't know.....they aren't done yet. I also have wax melting on the other side of the stove, speaking of stoves............my poor overused stove is in need of a serious cleaning!!!!! I figured I would scrub the tar off of it after the wax experiment is done.

Brad's B-day

Brad got brownie with blue marshmallow cream drizzled with chocolate and blue candles for his birthday cake this year. I had it waiting for him after school and they had a great time lighting candles and then licking the goo off the end of the candles after blowing them out. I actually remembered to get out the wallhanging and table runner mom made for B-days at our house. (the brownie was still warm when I set the candles in, so as I pulled it from the fridge just as the kids were getting off the bus I had to straighten the candles........)

Rachel's B-day Party

Rachel turned 16 last week, she loved her present (not a great pic) and the cake Dawn made turned out soooooooo cute! AND I got to hug on Creo the puppy formerly known as Ace.

Honey

The boys have been busy this week in honey production! Kelsey is feeling some better after his no food diet this week so he has been helping Kev with the bee's. They have bottled 120 angel's plus a couple gallons that will go in regular jars. I am impressed with the amount of honey this year, it should of been done last fall but due to the acquisition of 5 new hives we waited to harvest the honey so it wouldn't disturb the bee's after the move. I guess we're in the honey selling business again!!!

We're all sick....

Life around here sucks right now, we're all sick in one way or another. Kev is finally getting over his cold/? and his sore hip. He hobbled around for a week before it started feeling better. Brad is healing from his toenail thing, Kristin is over her cold/? with the help of meds. Josh has an ear infection, sinus and sore throat thing that he saw the doctor for today. I'm layed up with a sore foot, I ran a stick thru the bottom of my foot Sunday night and I can't walk on it at all, they put me on antibiotics today for it just in case of infection. AND Kelsey is here sick too, he has gut infection and is on a clear liquid diet for the week. Sara is healthy though...........whooooohoooooo!!!!

Not much new....

Not much new around here right now, Kristin is home for spring break. We did spend the afternoon sewing, she made two baby quilts and I quilted two quilts. A friend of hers is having a baby in a month and I thought it would be nice if she made the quilt instead of me so I cut up a flannel raggy quilt and she put it together, even did the second one too! I am glad she has taken an interest in sewing, it helped at college too when she was in the costume dept. last fall. Brad is going to have his toenails cut out on Thursday so he's going to be laid up for a few days. Josh has district speech tomorrow and I'm going down to watch with Kristin. I also was offered Tuesday/Thursday nights at the bar so I will be working more for awhile. I am finally getting over my cold, all thats left is the cough.........

puppies

These two sweet adorable puppies are looking for new homes...anyone interested?

Heartstrings

I made 12 Quilt as you Go blocks for Australia fire victims, well Sara and I made them. She kind of took over the project as you can tell from the pic. I also made 9 Happy Blocks to send off to Heartstrings project. I have a feeling Sara is my new sewing buddy.........oh and look at the snow we were getting last friday, thats the starter to all the problems hitting the east coast right now, ugh winter!!!!

Sara's quilt

Sara and I worked on this little quilt Friday before leaving for the funeral. I found the blocks in my grandma's drawer while looking for something else and mom said she gave them to grandma in the 80's to embroider. There were 4 of them done so I took them home and found rose fabric in mom's stash to set them with. Sara came home from school and designed borders and sewed them on. I quilted it Friday night and mom finished the binding and label in the car Saturday. Sara decided it was her quilt and she carried it in, helped put it over the end of the casket and carried it out and to the graveside service. She also held it all the way home on her lap. Sara liked my grandma, grandma didn't scare her like she did the rest of the kids and for that I'm truly amazed and thankful for such a sweet child.
The flowers were really pretty, mom's friend Deb did them and they looked great, Sara brought home the pink and white arrangements.

B-day present

The binding fairy also finished this B-day present for my friends son Austin. He is a big time baseball player and has trophies to prove it. I wanted to give him something snugly so it's all made of flannel and soft batting. My friend Dawn had all her kids in the first 4 months of the year so I have two more presents to make before April. Dawn has also put in an order for a king size quilt for her new bed being delivered the 3rd of March. I'm pretty sure she will have to wait just a bit before I can get a KING size done and besides I don't even know what color she wants...

Whats been going on around here

Last week I got my Happy Block baby quilt done and the binding fairy finished it up. I am happy with it and I'm sure some baby somewhere will love it. I will donate it somewhere.......

Last weekend we took a trip to Co. Bluffs for my uncle's 61st surprise B-day party. It really was a surprise!!! We had a great time and I got to see my cousin Mike and the rest of the family.

Monday we got a call from my other side of the family, Grandma Wilson was not doing well so I packed up my mom and took her down. Three days of waiting and wondering before it was over and the funeral is Saturday.

I am now on my way to pick up a kid from school, he's sick. I have a quilt to do for someone else and I am going to make a quilt for the casket...........

Heart Quit

Part of our quilt group got together to make a heart quilt for a friend of Maxine's last month. I was out of town when they put it together so I got the quilting part done and delivered it this week. I am always happy with the way our group makes these heart quilts turn out so nice. Sorry for the lousy pic but there is no way to hang a quilt out in my studio. I think a design wall is the next thing I should think about out there.

Valentine's Day

This is an end of an era at our house. Sara had her last grade school Valentine's Party last week. No more decorated boxes (or bags like this year) no more treats, no more pencils......It's rather sad for me but on to bigger and better things in the kid's lives. On a happier note, Kev and I had dinner out on Friday and went downtown for margarita's. The kids got candy from Kristin and they all seem happy with it, Brad said his Starbursts were really yummy (he even offered me one!)

We've doubled

We've doubled our heard almost this week! First Heidi had a baby......then Mocha had twins.....then Sadie had triplets!!!! Kev and the kids caught them all and put them in the new chicken house before the blizzard that was predicted yesterday, no snow but the goats are safe and sound.

Winter

I truly believe the only good thing about winter days are the sunsets. I took this pic out my bedroom door. I love the colors the winter sky creates when it's cold, the pinks and purples really make me happy. I think that's the only thing about winter I like.........yup I'm sure everything about winter sucks except the sunsets.
I did a little sewing tonight, a Happy block baby quilt is ready for the binding fairy and a B-day present for my friends son is ready for binding too. I got out my pink and brown disappearing 9-patch and sewed a few more blocks on it also. I need to take it to work and find a border fabric, maybe next week I'll have time to finish it.
I am canning beef for a neighbor tonight so as soon as this batch is done I'm off to bed, good thing this blog has spell check, I'm tired enough I'm typing in circles, to bad it don't have a built in editor...........

baby quilts

Josh helped me finish the baby quilts yesterday afternoon, he told me my hobby sucked.....oh well, guess I don't have to worry about him using my stash! I helped him with his Economics's class project, he really didn't have his heart into it so last minute mom came to the rescue. (I really didn't want him using my sewing machine either) I guess it's a thing to hold stuff while being active, he didn't have a clue how to put it on his wrist so again I saved him with black elastic and some zigzag stitching! I think the boys were feeling better this morning, they all left the house anyway.

nothing exciting

I am really boring this week, hence no posts on this blog. I go to work and sleep...........got sick boys home today and I work tonight again. I am heading out to my shop this afternoon, maybe I will be inspired by something out there.....I do have two denim baby quilts to finish, the babies are coming this week and their Grandma is ready to do the bindings. Better get moving......ugh!!!

My Quilt Shoppe

I love my shopping bag from My Quilt Shoppe in West Palm Beach! Not only did it carry my new fabric it serves as a great beach bag and I packed my swim shoes and suit in it to bring home in my suitcase. I love to reuse things and this bag was great for sitting on the beach, I think I even saw a few people checking out the logo on the side as they walked the beach.
The shop was great, large, well lit and friendly staff. I really liked the batik wall and the corner with Florida theme fabric. I bought some turtle fabric and batik to match, I have a shaded 9patch in mind. I also bought a Christmas kitty print on sale. Ok I know I have a weakness for kitty fabric....sure wish they'd quit making it, NOT!!! I wish there was a quilt shop in Pompano Beach, the 40 mile drive took an hour and a half, we did take the scenic route home along the coast. We are both amazed how easy it is to tell when you go from one town to another along the coast. West Palm Beach is all private mansions with private beach, Boca is condos and Pompano is resorts with beach access. Then down the way is Ft. Lauderdale with pubic beaches. I enjoyed the drive with Kevin and his new GPS, made it easy to find quilt shops!
